Hari Raya

Every year, my dad will bring me and my family to visit his malay friends. Some of his friends also had invited my dad to their open house. In malay the words of Hari Raya means ❝A day of celebration❞. It is marks at the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting.

Now I will introduce normally what Muslims wear, eat and do for Raya.

❦Do❦

First, they will go back to their hometown to gather with their parents, relatives and old friends. Before that, they also will prepare their new clothes and foods.

Normally in the first day of Raya, they will gather their family members for morning prayer with their traditional clothes. After the prayer, they will take breakfast at home with their family. While, they also will visit to the cemetery who pass away followed by a visit to the cemetery where their family members are remembered, their graves will be cleaned and overgrowth plants or grass will be clear. Prayers are offered to Allah.

This is also the time to seek forgiveness and forget the conflict between one another, to salam with means equivalent of a handshake from their eldest like parents or grandparents, and also kiss their hand as a sign of respect.

They usually greet "Selamat Hari Raya" with salam during Raya. ❝Selamat Hari Raya❞ which means ❝Wishing you a joyous Hari Raya❞.

Children also given "duit raya" by their parents or relatives which mean gift of money in a green packets.

❦Clothes❦

Their apparel symbolize their personality in Malaysia. It also a trademark in Malay tradition.

Why I said so?

This is because all the traditional clothes that they wear can recognize them as Malay. In Malaysia, the population of Malay is the largest among three races according to population statistic. This had prove we have chance to know more their culture and traditional clothing. Baju Kurung also can be translated as "Enclosed Dress". This traditional costumes can be found around the Malaysia. Apart from that, Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia also can be found Baju Kurung. This Baju Kurung not only can wear by Malay. Chinese or Indian can wear Baju Kurung as well during the month of Ramadan according to the Muslim Calender. For women, they require to wear a baju kurung with headscarf (tudung).

How about men's apparel?

In fact, there is baju kurung for men as well. In other words, is Cekak Musang. This clothes usually have three pockets two at the bottom and one at the upper left chest. Besides that, sampin is required to wear as well because suit with the clothes. Sampin is a sarung style made of Kain Songket, tenun Pahang Diraja or other woven materials with traditional patterns. Men also require to put their songkok on during the festive season. In this modern civilization, Baju Kurung has become one of the modern clothing that commonly express the mood of lively colors and geometric patterns.

I got 3 green pack for this year.

Here I wan to share 2 short poem.

Be like a river in generousity and help.
Be like the sun in tenderness and mercy.
Be like the night in covering faults of others.
Be like the earth in modesty and humility.
Be like the sea in tolerance.
Be like your appearance (image) or appear like yourself.
